PEAKŪ SF
Solid Runway Deicer is a 98% minimum active ingredient granular deicer composed of sodium
formate and proprietary corrosion inhibitors. This solid deicer and anti-icer is
fast-acting and environmentally acceptable for use on all airside operational surfaces as
well as landside applications. PEAKŪ SF Solid Runway Deicer is manufactured to meet the
strict performance and ecological requirements of AMS 1431A. Additionally, Transport
Canada and the Federal Aviation Administration have evaluated PEAKŪ SF for general
airport use and have found it to be a highly effective substitute for urea.
Deicing
The primary purpose of chemical deicing is not to melt surface ice, but rather to
diffuse down through the snow and ice to break the bond between frozen precipitation and
the runway.
Anti-Icing
The most cost effective way to utilize runway deicing fluid is by preventing
frozen precipitation from sticking. The presence of residual PEAKŪ SF on the
operational surface after deicing serves as an effective anti-icing agent.
Prewetting
Prewetting is not necessary. However, if desired, apply at a ratio of 70 parts
solid to 30 parts liquid (PEAKŪ PA).
Equipment
Conventional mechanical spreaders are acceptable. A combination spreader or one
which "prewets" the solid at the spinner with a liquid deicer/anti-icer is
highly recommended for maximum performance.
Storage and Handling
PEAKŪ SF should be stored in its original container in a cool, dry,
well-ventilated area to avoid moisture pick-up and caking. During the deicing season,
unused portions of PEAKŪ SF can be stored in piles, protected from precipitation,
without caking difficulties. When handling PEAKŪ SF, avoid contact with skin and eyes.
